Why I need a Wife...

I need a wife.

I used to be a wife and now I need one.  (not to be confusing...I don't want to marry a woman...I'd rather be married to a man, but married or not, I would like a housewife around here).  I think everyone could use a wife really.  And I guess by wife, what I really mean is "housewife".  And not like the "houswives or orange county" variety either...no, more like June Cleaver.

The idea of the "housewife" in some ways was kind of a short lived concept.  There aren't that many of them around anymore. Having a wife is truly a luxury.  How great is it to have a person you can delegate cleaning, cooking, errand running and taxi driving/child care to?  I mean of course you could hire a maid, a cook, a nanny a driver and a concierge service.  But geez, how expensive would that be?

I realize a housewife is a luxury few can actually afford.

But it really would be nice to have someone do all of that stuff while I just study all day.

Being a recent housewife myself I can say that some aspects of it are rewarding.  It's nice when you make a great meal and everyone loves it.  It's nice when you have time to shop and make your home look good without feeling like it is taking time away from other more important things.  It's great when it feels like you have all the time in the world to parent the way you would like without interuptions of things you don't feel are important.

However, being a housewife can be pretty isolating.  And if you're anything like me, it can also be pretty boring sometimes too.  Not boring in the sense that you don't have anything to do, but boring in the sense that you have a lot to do and none of it is super stimulating.  But, it can be rewarding.  Which is a good compensation.

Frankly, I'd rather be in school than be a housewife.  And I'd rather work at things that I love than be a housewife too.

But my house sure was a lot cleaner, my laundry more caught up, my errands under control and my kids got a lot more attention when we had a housewife around here.

One of the nice things about waiting a bit to have kids is that I wasn't a housewife for a while. Once I was able to stop working and be a housewife, I think both DH and I were pretty excited about life with a housewife...I just wish the housewife wasn't always me :)
