Sofia Bulgaria Mission!

Okay - a lot of people have already heard this news through word of mouth and facebook, but in case you missed it:

We've been waiting for Holden's mission call for 3 weeks now and he finally got it yesterday! He's so excited that he'll be serving in the Sofia Bulgaria mission!

He doesn't leave until August 12th, so he has a lot of time to prepare! (I think that's the only slight downside - I think he was wishing he'd be leaving by June, but it seems like they send out the missionaries in huge groups about 4 times a year)

It will be a huge adventure!

OH MY GOSH! I hadn't even heard yet! That is exciting. Is he learning Bulgarian yet? Was he even thinking about that part of the country? Was there anyplace he especially did or didn't want to go? I'll bet that is frustrating for him to have to wait all summer. Anyway, Congratulations!

You know, he is super excited about it! I think he was just really really hoping it was going to be foreign or that at least he would be able to learn a new language (he picks up languages really quickly) - but I think he thought maybe an Asian country or South America or something. I think because the number of missionaries they send to these types of missions is smaller, he though his chances of a European mission were slim. But a former Soviet Bloc country is very very cool! It will be hard, there is definitely a lot of anti-mormon sentiment there, but I think if anyone can handle that type of thing it would be Holden. He's already trying to learn the cyrillic (I might have spelled that wrong) alphabet. He is just honestly relieved it's not a call to Tulsa OK (although he's had 3 weeks to get used to the idea that it very well could be Tulsa and I think a couple of days ago had finally submitted to the idea that anywhere he went would be fine - he kept saying that EVERY single returned missionary he knows says their mission was awesome, even if they went to Fresno CA) Now we are just waiting for Austin's call which we know has already been mailed. Austin really wants to go foreign too - especially to somewhere like Africa - so we have our fingers crossed for him!

Wow. That really WILL be an adventure. I'm sure he is thrilled! Who is Austin? Don't tell me you have another child I don't know about....

Hey Lindsay -

Austin is actually Holden's friend. He is up at BYU Idaho also and he is from Phoenix (Biltmore Ward) so a lot of people who read the blog know him too! There were days when they were growing up when it seemed like I had Austin as much as I had Holden (I'm sure Austin's mom would say the same thing) - so it's cool that they are both heading off on their missions at roughly the same time!
