Books I loved in the past year

This year it seems like I've read less books than usual. I chalk that up to the fact that with my new little internet business adventure, I have much less free time. Due to having less time, a couple of the books on this list were re-reads, not having time to go to Borders as much as I normally would, I grabbed something off the shelf in the family room when I was out of reading material. Here's what I enjoyed most:

  1. Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver
  2. Abundance a Novel by Sena Jeter Naslund
  3. The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith
  4. Life of Pi by Yann Martel
  5. I'm Not the New Me by Wendy McClure

I always like to see what other people are reading. "Life of Pi" is one of my favorites too. I'm choosing "Abundance" for our bookclub for November. Thanks for the suggestion.

I hope you like it Cindy. I love Life of Pi, I would definitely put it in my top 10. I know I am always looking for suggestions. I don't finish a lot of books I start because if I am not into it by the 2nd of third chapter, or at least 1/8 of the way into the book, I often put it away. I did that with Prodigal Summer - I had read Poisonwood Bible several years ago and really liked it, so I picked up Prodigal Summer a couple of years ago, read probable only the first couple of pages, found it disappointing in some way and put it back on the self. I picked it up again last weekend out of desperation for a book and ended up really liking it. I don't know why it bored me the first time, but it just did.

Maybe I was just immature.

What have you read in the last year or so that you've really liked?

Hi, I just saw your comment in FMH. I too am a SAHM, business owner, who (used to) hire a maid but had some tough money spots and let the maid go, I am a night owl, I am often in chaos, I agree with your comments about the talk. I feel so alone sometimes, being a CEO and a mom at the same time, I would love to "meet" you! I have a livejournal but it is locked down to friends only. I keep meaning to keep a public blog but I fear! I do have a flickr account. You can find me under wyckhurst there.

Oh, and I loved Life of Pi as well, I read it last year. I wish I had more time for reading. Obviously I need to make the time, right?

Anyway, I thought I'd introduce myself.

Hi Suzanne,

Nice to "meet" you. It's a bit tricky to keep a public blog just because you may not say everything you think as quickly as you would in a private one. A little tightrope walk to be sure!

Your welcome to email me if you like at lezleephays@hotmail.com

My favorites of Barbara Kingsolvers are Animal Dreams and The Bean Trees. Hmm recently? In the Heart of the Sea by Nathaniel Philbrick, A long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah, Ice Castle by (I forget) and I finally read Twilight which was fun.
